Cherry is commencing a PhD in Health Sciences, focusing on cardioprotective chemotherapeutic strategies for colorectal cancer. Her interest in this field developed through earlier research exploring cellular signalling pathways and cancer disease mechanisms, alongside a growing interest in the cardiovascular system during her undergraduate studies. She wants to combine both areas in her postgraduate research, particularly the intersection between cancer therapy and cardiovascular health.
This area is also personally meaningful to Cherry, who has seen friends experience the long-term cardiovascular side effects of cancer treatment even years after remission. Through her research, she hopes to contribute to safer, more targeted therapies that improve both survival and quality of life for colorectal cancer patients. In the future, she hopes to pursue a career in translational biomedical research, bridging laboratory discoveries with clinical applications to improve patient outcomes.
