Dr Amanda Croft

Amanda is an early-career researcher at the Newcastle Cardio-Oncology Centre of Excellence (Hunter Medical Research Institute, University of Newcastle), where she is completing her PhD in 2026. Her research journey spans more than 20 years across both cancer and cardiovascular science.

Her work aims to uncover how cancer can affect the heart, even before treatment begins, and how factors like metabolism and body fat (adipose tissue) influence both cancer progression and heart health. Recently, her research has shown that improving the health of fat tissue may help slow cancer growth while also protecting the heart, opening new possibilities for treatment. She has also made important contributions to understanding how men and women may experience heart disease differently.

Passionate about improving outcomes for people living with cancer, Amanda is now moving into the next stage of her career as a postdoctoral researcher, continuing her work to better understand and reduce the impact of cancer on heart health.
