Dr Jie Yu
Cardiologist / Clinician-researcher

Dr Jie Yu

PhD, MD, FRACP

Jie is a cardiologist and clinician-researcher with more than 15 years of clinical and academic experience across China and Australia. She completed her medical degree and PhD at Peking University, and later worked as a Consultant and Associate Professor at Peking University Third Hospital.

She relocated to Australia in 2018 to pursue cardiovascular research at the George Institute for Global Health, where she held leadership roles in major international studies, including Chair of the Endpoint Adjudication Committee for the Salt Substitute and Stroke Study (NCT02092090) and Principal Investigator for the first salt-substitute trial in rural India (Salt Substitute in India Study, NCT03909659). She later returned to clinical cardiology in Australia and undertook further training in heart failure, cardiac imaging and cardio-oncology. She is currently a Conjoint Senior Lecturer at the University of Newcastle and previously served as Co-Deputy Director of the Heart and Stroke Program at the Hunter Medical Research Institute.

A central theme of her work is delivering evidence-based, patient-centred care more effectively, particularly for people with complex conditions and those living in regional and rural communities. Her recent research reflects growing interests in telehealth models of care, cancer survivorship and precision medicine in cardiovascular disease. Her overall goal is to integrate clinical excellence, research impact and health equity to improve cardiovascular outcomes, and she is committed to teaching and mentoring junior doctors and emerging clinician-researchers.
